In January 2010, I created iPod and iPhone info. In those days I used to create a lot of posts, but as time went on I gradually lost interest of writing posts. I felt that I was just relaying the news and publicising Apple. I was going to shut down, as no one was coming to the site but then publicity grew and I began writing post again. People was writing comments to keep me going and they were really supportive. Unfortunately I went downhill again and not writing as many posts and today is the day I will shut down iPod & iPhone Info.

Since I created iPhone and iPod Info, I seen so many things. The release of the iPad & iPad 2, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S,  iPod touch 4th generation, Apple TV 2, iPod Nano 6th generation, iOS 4 and iOS 5, iCloud and so many more. Apple has truly changed my life and it has been a brilliant 2 years. I like to thank Redmond Pie, Mac rumours, Engadget and 9 to 5 Mac for the news and live blogs that they do.

  iPod and iPhone Info is dead and as Steve Jobs said Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.

Former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs was produced dead on the afternoon of Wednesday October 5, 2011. This comes after he stepped down from CEO in August and handed the role to Tim Cook. Tributes of Steve’s death have come from every where. President Obama, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg to name a few who have said things about Steve. On Tuesday Apple announced the iPhone 4S with minor changes, but the iPhone 4S is in my mind is the iPhone to remember Steve. Now as this is a iPod & iPhone info site, I won’t explain about Mac OS X Lion. I’ll just explain about iOS 5.

iOS 5 adds 200+ new user features and 1500 new API’s to developers. Here are just 5 of those 200+ user features in iOS 5:

1. Notifications (Notification Center)    

Now in iOS 5 when you get a new email, text, request and more, you’ll get a banner at the top of the screen showing you the notification. The notification then disappears away with a cube transition so you can continue what your doing. If you ever want to look at the notification again (along with other notifications) just swipe down from the top to enter Notification Center. In Notification Center you can also view weather and stock widgets.

2. iMessage     

iOS 5 brings iMessage, which sends unlimited texts from your iOS 5 device to another iOS 5 device, Absolutely FREE! You can send them from your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch over Wi-Fi or 3G. As well as sending texts you can send photos, videos, location and contacts. All your texts are encrypted and secure and you can also resume a conversion on another iOS 5 device.

3. Twitter     

iOS 5 comes with Twiter integration. This allow user to post pictures, articles, video and even location to their Twitter account. You only sign in once in settings and you can tweet in Photos, Safari, Youtube and Maps. You can even mention or @reply to another Twitter user, all on your device.

4. Camera and Photos         

The camera and photos app in iOS 5 have been updated and have some new features. Lets start with the camera, first if you double press the home button in the lock screen you’ll have a button to go straight to the camera app. When taking a picture there are some new features like grid lines, pinch to zoom and lock focus and exposure. You can also take pictures now, with the volume up button, which is a brillaint feature. Next photos with some photo enhancements which lets you crop, rotate, remove red-eye and auto enhance.

5. PC Free and Wi-Fi Sync       

With iOS 5, you no longer have to connect your device to activate in iTunes. It’s all done on the device. Restore from a back up and even download software updates right from your device. With Wi-Fi sync you can wirelessly sync and back up to iTunes even if you have a Mac or PC. Just connect your device to power source and it automatically syncs.

That’s just 5 features from over the 200+ new user features in iOS 5.  iOS 5 will be released in the fall and the devices that can download  iOS 4.3 will be able to download iOS 5. This is it, after a 9 month delay the white iPhone 4 is officialy here. First they delayed it to July, then the end of the year and finally spring 2011. So why was the white iPhone 4 delayed for so long? Well according to Apple they say that it was delayed because of the lack of  UV protection. Phil Schiller-senior vice president-said that white iPhones need protection from the sun’s UV rays. He also said that if the paint on the back wasn’t quite right too much light would go into the camera’s sensor. I think that Apple wanted resolved the problem with white iPhone 3GS that it would turn pink after too much heat. Also weirdly the white iPhone 4 is actually 0.2 mm thicker that the black, this could be because of the paint. No need to panic more or less all the iPhone 4 cases work with the white iPhone so no need to buy a special one. So finally the white iPhone 4 is here but here’s a reminder for you, iPhone 5.

2011: Year of the iPad 2

On March 2nd at the Yerba Buena Center, Apple announced the next generation of iPad the iPad 2. The iPad 2 builds on top of the original iPad. It has an all new design that makes it feel even better in your hands. It’s 33% thinner and 15% lighter so it’s easier to pick up and hold. Also iPad 2 has a Dual-core A5 chip which 2x as fast and up to 9x better graphics. Then there’s cameras, the new iPad has a VGA front-facing camera and a 720p HD back-facing camera. These are the same cameras that are in the iPod touch 4G. iPad 2 has a new gyroscope like in the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G and also runs iOS 4.3.

iPad 2 comes in Black or White, has the same 10 hour battery and has the same price of $499 (£400)

Accessories

Smart Covers 

Smart Covers are covers for the iPad 2 screen. They use the magnets in the iPad 2 to magnetically attach itself to the iPad and align it perfectly. You can also fold back the Smart Cover to double up as a stand for watching movies or as a keyboard stand for typing. Also if you open the Smart Cover it wakes up your iPad or close it to lock your iPad. The inside of the Smart Cover is microfiber lining this is to brush off any fingerprints on your iPad screen. There’s light black, light blue, green, orange or pink in polyurethane or red, dark blue, dark black, brown or grey in leather. Smart Covers are $40 (£35) for polyurethane or $70 (£60) for leather.

Digital AV Adapter

This cable connects to your HDTV to video mirror what’s on your iPad screen. It does not come with a HDMI cable so you’ll have to buy one. You can also charge your iPad while mirroring your device. Apple say this is good to give off a presentation, school lectures, movies etc. The Digital AV Adapter costs $39 (£35).

The invitation shows the calendar icon on March 2nd pealing back a little to reveal the corner of the iPad. They pealed it back just a little so that you can’t see were the front-facing camera might be. The day is a big 2 and emphasizing the iPad 2nd Generation (iPad 2). It also has a quote saying “Come see what 2011 will be the year of “. At the event they might also announce iOS 4.3 which brings some new features. Some features are:

Personal Hotspot

This makes your iPhone is a Wi-fi router using EDGE or 3G for faster connection.

AirPlay for 3rd Party Apps

This allows developers to integrate AirPlay into their apps.

New Factime icon

(iPod touch 4th Gen) A new boring grey Facetime logo like the Mac logo.

iAds for iPad

iAd banners are now full screen for iPad.

Configurable iPad Switch

The switch on the side of the iPad can now be a mute switch or a rotation lock.

New UI App Store Updates

The Updates section in the App Store is now different.

New Font For iPad

A New font called Noteworthy for the iPad.

The App Store has just hit 10 billion apps. As of this time we are still don’t no who the winner Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, UK is the winner of the $10,000 iTunes Gift Card.

With the Release of the 4.3 beta’s people have been digging round in the firmware. There are also rumours flying around and what people expect in the iPad 2.

Camera’s

With Apple pushing Facetime to their devices it will be no surprise that there will be a front facing camera for Facetime. People are not so sure for the back facing camera. People are saying the iPad is too big for a back facing camera and that they just don’t see it.

Display

Can Apple make a Retina Display that big? We don’t think so. It will be a higher resolution display but we don’t think that Apple can do a Retina Display that big but who knows.

Processor

Some are saying that its called the A5 Chip but unlikely. It Probably will have a faster processor which will be nice for games and multi-tasking.

No Home

With multi-touch gestures in iOS 4.3 why have the Home button on the iPad. We think that Apple will remove the home button and maybe a bigger display or smaller iPad.

Find my Friends

So now that Find my iPhone is free people have discovered Find my Friends. You will probably have to have Mobile-Me and basically like Facebook Places. Its like iTunes Ping all over again.

That’s some rumours flouting around of what’s in the new iPad 2.

In Other news Steve Jobs has left Apple to concentrate on his heath. He is still CEO and Tim Cook will do his day to day jobs.

Apple in the UK have launched the 12 days of Christmas. This starts on the 26th December and ends on the 6th January. The 12 days of Christmas is when Apple gives you a free gift (Yes, Free!). This can be Music, Music Videos, Apps, Books, TV Episodes and Films. So from the 26th December you either Open the 12 Days of Christmas App or Sign Up for Email Alerts then see what’s free and then get it. The 12 Days of Christmas App is available for free now in the App Store but you can’t do anything in it really until the 26th. This is only available in the UK but you can set up a UK iTunes Account when your not in the UK.
